Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Main duties of the job
Our Treasury & Cashiers Team operates from dedicated offices on each of our Hospital sites i.e. Guys near London Bridge & St Thomas near and RBH Westminster Bridge, both are in London. It’s a small but busy team focused on ensuring the accurate and timely allocation of money paid to the Trust, worth around £2.2Bn every year.
Besides this, strong interpersonal skills are required as you’ll be interacting with patients and staff members to deal with things like paying expenses and taking money or property into safekeeping while patients’ are staying in one of the Hospital’s for prolonged periods.
Initially you will work at our Guy’s site but you also work in St Thomas’ once you have successfully completed your initial training and can work more independently. There are limited opportunities to work remotely because of the customer facing nature of these roles and normal office hours are from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday.
As well as serving customers and doing data input, you’ll need to do some detective work too. If people pay money without quoting the right reference, you’ll try and find the right home for it. This could involve dealing with colleagues in other departments, accounts payable teams in external organisations (ranging from small businesses, through local government bodies to central government departments). Problem solving and strong communication skills are must haves accordingly.
